PRIVATE LESSONS

IMG_0227.JPG

Do you live in the Washington, DC-metro area? Are you interested in taking private music lessons? Then please consider sending an email to bradleygreencomposer@gmail.com to inquire about lessons, or fill out the form in the “Contact” tab above. THE FIRST LESSON IS FREE! Lesson rates are negotiable and dependent on a few factors, including the type and length of lesson, but generally range between $45-$70 for an hour lesson per week. If you do not live in the DC-area, online lessons can also be discussed.

For over a decade I have gained experience teaching students at every skill level and context, from middle school to graduate students, from private lessons to huge classes. I have doctorate and master’s degrees in music composition and theory, my undergraduate degree is in music education, and I currently teach many classes and students in and around the DC-metro area, both privately and at multiple universities. Teaching has been a passion of mine since before I started my career, and I was even giving saxophone and guitar lessons before I left high school! Whenever I teach, I attempt to approach the material in a way that will energize students and reveal to them the excitement of discovery possible through the creation, performance, and study of music, while also giving them practical tools to use as musicians. Towards this end, I approach teaching every student differently, as I like to meet students where they are instead of forcing them in one direction or another.

Composition and/or Theory Lessons

Student Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced

From songwriting to classical pieces, from conventional writing to experimental, I can help you put the sounds in your head onto the page. When I first meet with students, my goal is to determine what it is they want to write and then develop a plan that is tailored to that specific student. This can include lessons in harmony, counterpoint, instrumentation, timbre, form, etc., while also developing more practical skills like music notation and/or production.

As a composer, my works are performed by soloists and ensembles both nationally and internationally. I have experience in many types of composition, including acoustic works (large and small ensemble), electronic works (DAW, sound synthesis, etc.), scoring for videos, songwriting (etc.). Though I am primarily an experimental composer, my style has changed (and continues to change) drastically over the years, and as such I have experience writing in many different styles.

NOTE: I also offer lessons in music theory without composition for those that are interested, which can include students who simply want to have a better grasp of theory concepts, to those who want to perform serious analyses.
